Bin12 is a wine journal for the table — you log what you drink, rate it, and share it with the people you drink with. This page explains, in plain English, what we collect, who gets to see it, and how to ask us to delete it.
What we collect
When you create an account:
- Your name and email address.
- A password. We don’t store it ourselves — our sign-in provider (Supabase) keeps it, encrypted.
In your profile, if you choose to add them:
- Your home zip code, so we can show you tastings nearby.
- Your timezone and preferred currency.
What you log while using Bin12:
- Wines, ratings, tasting notes, and bottle photos.
- Purchases and the shops you bought them from.
- Your answers to the taste quiz.
- The tastings you attend or host, and your friends on Bin12.
If you RSVP to a public tasting, we collect the name and email you give us for that RSVP.
If you ask to claim a shop’s page, list a new shop, or have a listing removed, we collect the name, email, and message you give us on that form.
If you rate a tasting as a guest from a QR code — no account needed — we keep your scores and notes. If you want your ratings emailed to you, we also keep that email address, and your name if you add it.
Who sees what
- The other members of a cellar see what’s logged in that cellar.
- People at a tasting see the lineup and the ratings shared at that tasting.
- Friends on Bin12 can compare their taste with yours.
- A shop sees headcounts and anonymous totals by default. Your ratings of its wines reach it only if you tick that box, and your name and email only if you tick that one too. You can change these choices from your profile’s sharing settings.
Public pages
Some pages on Bin12 are public: shop pages and their tasting listings, a tasting group’s page once it has a web address, and recaps of tastings a host chose to share. A shared recap shows the wines, scores and the photos marked public — never who gave which score.
Once a shop’s public tasting is over and at least three scores are in, its event page shows the table’s average for each wine that two or more people rated — never who gave which score.
Emails we send
- Account confirmation and password reset.
- RSVP confirmations, and a note if a tasting you RSVP’d to is cancelled.
- One follow-up the morning after a tasting you RSVP’d to, if you ticked the box to share your details.
- A day-after reminder to rate a tasting you attended.
- Invites to cellars and tastings.
- Your ratings, if you rated as a guest and asked for them.
- Replies to a shop claim or listing request.
- Announcements from a shop you’re connected to, each with a one-click unsubscribe link.
Who helps us run this
We share data with a small set of service providers, only as needed to run Bin12:
- Supabase — our database, sign-in, and photo storage.
- Vercel — hosting.
- Resend — sending the emails above.
- Cloudflare Turnstile — a bot check on our forms.
- Anthropic — the AI behind tasting and serving notes, label and lineup photo scans, taste profile summaries, and pairing suggestions. The photos you scan and the wine details involved are sent to generate these; your name and email are not.
Usage data
We record which features get used — for example, that a tasting was started — and we count views of our public pages without identifying who was looking.
Cookies
We use cookies to keep you signed in and to finish a password reset. Cloudflare’s bot check may set its own. No advertising cookies and no third-party tracking scripts.
We don’t sell your data
Not to advertisers, not to data brokers, not to anyone. Shops can pay Bin 12 for extra tools, like more promoted tastings and a better spot in listings — but paying never gets a shop anyone’s name or email. Those reach a shop only if you ticked the box to share them with that shop, whatever plan it’s on.
Deletion and export
Self-serve deletion and export are coming. Until then, email hello@bin12.com and we’ll delete your account and its data.
Age
Bin12 is a wine app. You must be 21 or older (or the legal drinking age where you are) to use it.
Changes
If this policy changes, we’ll update this page and the date at the top.
